Beloved Orca Tahlequah Seen Again with Dead Calf in Puget Sound
Tahlequah, an orca also known as J35, has been spotted in Puget Sound with a deceased newborn calf, echoing her earlier mourning period for another calf in 2018. The Center for Whale Research highlighted the emotional weight of this loss, marking the second calf Tahlequah has lost out of her four documented offspring. Orca populations are declining due to reduced prey and disturbances from boat traffic, and they are classified as endangered in the United States.
