BKW Plans Sustainable Energy Transition for Former Mühleberg Nuclear Power Plant Site
BKW is set to repurpose the site of the decommissioned Mühleberg nuclear power plant for future energy production. The company plans to build a battery storage facility after the deconstruction and is exploring potential development of a new CO₂-low power plant. BKW CEO Robert Itschner emphasized the site’s potential to contribute to Switzerland’s sustainable energy supply during a media event marking five years since the plant’s closure.
