The Bordeaux Administrative Court has deemed illegal the permits granted for four irrigation reservoirs in Poitou, particularly the contested Sainte-Soline site, citing threats to the protected Great Bustard species. Environmental groups had challenged the state’s approval for 16 agricultural water reservoirs, leading to a suspension of further construction and filling until necessary exemptions for protected species are issued. However, existing water in the already completed Sainte-Soline reservoir can still be used this summer by connected farmers, as new fill operations are prohibited.
