Brazilian Authorities Discover Chinese Workers in Slave-like Conditions at BYD Facility
Brazilian officials reported finding 163 Chinese nationals working in slave-like conditions at a factory site owned by Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD in Bahia. The workers were illegally recruited from China, subjected to long hours beyond legal limits, and detained in degrading conditions. BYD has severed ties with the hiring company, Jinjiang, which denies the allegations, claiming translation misunderstandings. The Chinese Foreign Ministry is in contact with Brazilian authorities to verify the situation. Labor inspectors revealed that many workers had their passports withheld and faced unsafe working conditions.
