Bulgarian Man Sentenced to Ten Years for Cocaine Trafficking in Ireland

Kamen Petkov, a 36-year-old Bulgarian seaman, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for orchestrating the concealment of over €21.6 million worth of cocaine on the MV Verila. The drugs, discovered at Foynes Harbour in December 2023, were hidden in a room aboard the vessel and intended for a drop-off in the Shannon estuary. Judge Colin Daly emphasized the significant societal harm caused by such trafficking and the collaboration with organized crime, justifying the lengthy sentence.
