Celebrating Saints: November 16’s Feast of Iphigenia and Apostle Matthew
On November 16, the Orthodox Church commemorates Saints Iphigenia and Matthew, the apostle and evangelist known for authoring the first Gospel. Originally named Levi, Matthew worked as a tax collector in Capernaum before becoming a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ. He preached the Gospel across regions, including Palestine and Ethiopia, after the events of Pentecost. This day also marks the International Day for Tolerance, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and understanding.
