Celebrating the Tradition of ‘Bouquet Soaking’ in Nea Anchialos, Greece

In Nea Anchialos, Thessaloniki, the age-old tradition of ‘Bouquet Soaking’ took place once again, where the best man leads the groom to the village fountain and douses him with cold water. This centuries-old custom, brought by refugees from the Black Sea coast, is celebrated with sweets and wine after the soaking. Participants look forward to the next year’s event on St. John’s Day, honoring grooms getting married this year.
