Celebrating Tradition: The Kladaries Festival in Siatista, Greece

In the post-Byzantine town of Siatista, Greece, locals preserve their traditions through the Kladaries festival held on December 23. The event begins at 7:00 PM with the lighting of fifty bonfires by the mayor, accompanied by brass bands playing traditional Kolinda carols. As the bonfires die down, children visit homes sharing good wishes through songs. According to Christos Karakoulakis, responsible for the town’s tourism promotion, the celebration draws visitors of all ages, eager to enjoy festive food, wine, and dancing together.
