CERN Explores Feasibility of Future Circular Collider Project

CERN is currently investigating the underground conditions necessary for the construction of a new particle accelerator, the Future Circular Collider (FCC). The studies involve geotechnical drilling and seismic methods to evaluate soil stability across nine locations in Switzerland and France. While the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is expected to be fully operational by 2045, the FCC plans could begin construction in about ten years, pending a final report in March 2025 and approval from member states.
