Charles Morerod has been elected as the new president of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference, set to serve from January 2025 to 2027. Previously, he held the presidency from 2016 to 2018 and will succeed Bishop Felix Gmür. Recently, Morerod faced criticism from the Vatican concerning handling of sexual abuse allegations, although it was determined that no criminal actions or cover-ups occurred. The new vice president will be Joseph Maria Bonnemain, Bishop of Chur.
