Child Protection in Ireland: Alarm Raised Over System Failures

A new report by the Child Law Project highlights significant shortcomings in Ireland’s child protection policies and care placements. Over three years of scrutiny revealed increasing judicial concern regarding vulnerable children falling through the cracks due to an acute shortage of suitable care options and insufficient government strategy. CEO Dr. Maria Corbett noted that the system’s flaws could severely impact at-risk youth. The report, set to be launched by Special Rapporteur Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC, emphasizes the urgent need for coherent policy changes and better inter-agency collaboration to protect children effectively.
