Christian Lindner, the leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), has called on the Union to change its election strategy and clearly support a Schwarz-Gelb coalition ahead of the Bundestag elections in February. He believes that a united front could sway discontented voters away from the alternative parties. Current polls indicate that the FDP may struggle to exceed the five-percent threshold required to enter the Bundestag. CDU leader Friedrich Merz has not ruled out alliance possibilities but remains cautious.
