Cleveland Teen Released After Successful Appeal Against Riot Sentence

Dylan Willis, an 18-year-old from Hartlepool, has been released after successfully appealing his 14-month sentence for smashing a restaurant window during summer riots. The Court of Appeal judges determined that his complex developmental and mental health issues warranted a suspended sentence instead. Willis, who has ADHD, a low IQ, and autism spectrum disorder, appeared emotional upon learning of his release. However, appeals from three other men involved in the riots were unsuccessful, as their sentences remained unchanged. The judges emphasized the need for sentences to act as deterrents while considering individual circumstances.
