Closure of Marineland Antibes Marks End of an Era for Marine Life Displays
Marineland Antibes, a prominent marine park founded in 1970, will permanently close on January 5, 2024, following new animal welfare laws and significant economic challenges. The park’s director, Pascal Picot, confirmed that decreasing attendance, worsened by the pandemic, and compliance with legislation prohibiting cetacean captivity and performances have forced the closure. With over 150 animals remaining, plans for their relocation remain uncertain, and the future of the park’s 103 employees is also in question amidst public outcry and a petition against the closure.
