Commemoration of Saint Polyuctus the Martyr on January 9

On January 9, the Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of Hieromartyr Theoktistos, Martyrs Polyuctus and Laurentius, and New Martyr Kyrannis from Vysokas, Thessaloniki. Saint Polyuctus, a soldier during the time of emperors Decius and Valerian, is noted for being the first martyr for Christ in Melitene, Armenia. He remained steadfast in his faith despite pressure from the emperor and personal circumstances, ultimately achieving martyrdom through beheading. The assembly honoring him takes place at a church built near his martyrdom site.
