Completion of Crete-Attica Electricity Interconnection Marks Key Milestone for Energy Security
The recent completion of the Crete-Attica electricity interconnection is expected to provide significant benefits for the island, enhancing energy security and capacity during the peak tourist season. Additionally, the project aims to reduce carbon emissions by 60% and facilitate the growth of renewable energy sources. Economically, the reduced operating costs are estimated to save consumers around 300 million euros annually. The interconnection, which began in 2020 with a budget of over 1.1 billion euros, is set to operationalize in spring 2025 after final tests.
