Concerns Raised Over Maritime Safety After ‘Agia Theodora’ Incident

Following the grounding of the ferry ‘Agia Theodora’ on October 28 during its route from Corfu to Igoumenitsa, Greek lawmakers from the Communist Party have questioned the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy regarding maritime safety. They highlighted that the incident, which occurred at the shallow river mouth of Kalama without casualties or damages, raises doubts about the effectiveness of the vessel traffic services (VTS) in Corfu and Igoumenitsa. The MPs are urging for measures to ensure safe navigation in sensitive areas with high shipping traffic.
