Copenhagen Celebrates St. Lucia’s Day with Illuminated Kayak Parade

On the evening of December 13, Copenhagen lit up as around 400 kayaks adorned with Christmas lights paraded through the city’s canals to celebrate ‘St. Lucia’s Day’. Spectators gathered on streets and bridges to witness the procession, where some paddlers wore traditional St. Lucia crowns with faux candles. The celebration, part of a tradition originating in Sweden in the late 19th century, has been embraced by neighboring Denmark as well.
