Corfu Island Declares Emergency Due to Water Shortage

Corfu has been in a state of emergency for two months due to a severe water shortage. Recent meetings have revealed that wells have run dry and the existing infrastructure is inadequate. Financial support of 2 million euros was promised by Greek Minister Christos Skilakakis to help the three municipalities on the island; however, the funds have yet to be released. Urgent discussions continue regarding the establishment of desalination units and the resumption of drilling to address the crisis.
