Court Clears Greenpeace Activists in Havre Terminal Protest Case
On December 10, 2024, the maritime court in Le Havre acquitted seven defendants, including two journalists, involved in a Greenpeace protest against the entry of the Cape Ann liquefied natural gas terminal. The activists had staged a non-violent action on September 18, 2023, opposing the terminal’s operations, which they claim are unnecessary and harmful to climate change. The court previously deemed that the journalists should be fully acquitted, while fines were proposed for other activists for violating maritime regulations.
