Critical Health Care Crisis in Aegina: Nurses and Ambulance Crews Scarce
The Board of the Aegina Nurses Union announced support for a health mobilization on November 15, highlighting a critical shortage at the island’s only public health center. With six of eleven nursing positions and four of six ambulance crew roles vacant, urgent care is severely compromised. Currently, only one nurse covers night shifts, and one doctor manages numerous 24-hour shifts. Additionally, the health facility has faced significant deterioration, impacting the safety and care of around 5,000 patients treated over the summer. The situation demands immediate attention and action.
