Czech Republic Meets NATO Military Spending Goal for the First Time in Two Decades

The Czech Republic’s Ministry of Defense announced that the country will meet the NATO defense spending target of 2% of GDP in 2024, marking the first time in nearly two decades. The defense expenditures reached 166.8 billion crowns ($6.9 billion) in 2023, constituting 2.09% of GDP. Minister Jana Černochová highlighted the challenges faced in achieving this goal, particularly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has prompted significant military investments, including the acquisition of various armored vehicles and advanced technology.
