Deadly Clashes in Southwestern Colombia Leave at Least Twelve Dead

Fighting between two factions of former FARC dissidents in southwestern Colombia has resulted in the deaths of at least twelve people since November 30. Local officials reported the clashes occurring in Putumayo, a region affected by coca cultivation. The confrontations involve groups led by a figure known as Calarca, currently engaged in peace negotiations, and members of the Segunda Marquetalia faction, which was formed by former guerrilla fighters who resumed armed conflict after peace talks collapsed.
