Debate Continues Over Freedom of Assembly in Germany Amidst Ban on Pro-Palestinian Demonstrations
Following a ban on pro-Palestinian protests, the debate over assembly rights in Germany has intensified. A recent study shows that out of approximately 31,800 assembly applications, only around 215 were banned, with pro-Palestinian gatherings being the second most restricted. Experts express concerns about the implications of these bans on freedom of speech and assembly, citing historical contexts and calling for a balanced approach to security versus civil rights. Amnesty International has also criticized the disproportionate nature of these restrictions, particularly concerning protests supporting Palestine.
