Digital Competence Crisis: Study Reveals Low Skills Among German Students
A recent international study highlights a concerning trend among German eighth-graders, where approximately 40% possess only basic digital skills. The study, part of the International Computer and Information Literacy Study 2023, points to a decline in computer proficiency compared to 2013 and 2018. While students from Germany scored above average compared to 35 participating countries, only 1.1% achieved high-level skills. Education Minister Cem Ă–zdemir emphasized the need for a comprehensive digital education strategy, alongside improved teacher training and school resources, to better equip students for the digital age.
