Doctors Without Borders has withdrawn its rescue ship, the ‘Geo Barents,’ from the Mediterranean due to increasingly stringent Italian legislation. The organization, which has rescued over 94,000 people since 2015, cited the impracticality of continuing operations under current laws that limit their ability to assist. The group is considering smaller, faster ships for future missions, as the Mediterranean remains one of the most perilous migration routes globally.
