Driver Found Guilty in Assault Case Against German Family in Crete
A mixed jury court in Chania has found the driver of a pick-up truck guilty of assaulting a German family in Mylopotamos in August 2022. The court rejected requests for mitigating circumstances, sentencing the driver to 5.5 years in prison for dangerous driving, bodily harm, weapons possession, and threats. The co-driver was acquitted. The prosecutor had recommended the driver’s conviction for dangerous driving but proposed acquittals for both defendants concerning more severe charges linked to racist motives. The driver can buy out the sentence at a daily fee.
