Dutch Deputy Minister Announces Early Release for Incarcerated Individuals Amid Overcrowding Crisis

In response to severe overcrowding in Dutch prisons, Deputy Minister Coenradie has decided to release incarcerated individuals three days earlier than planned. This measure is intended to alleviate the crisis, as individuals convicted of serious offenses may be unable to serve their sentences due to lack of space. Only certain offenders, such as those sentenced to TBS and those with sentences under a week, will be excluded from this early release policy. Coenradie expressed frustration over the situation, anticipating a ‘code black’ level of crisis in the prison system.
