Dutch Mayors Less Concerned About Border Control Impact
Mayors of border municipalities in the Netherlands are less apprehensive about the upcoming extra border controls aimed at curbing smuggling and illegal immigration. Following discussions with Minister of Asylum and Migration, Eric Faber, local leaders have expressed that the controls will likely be similar to the existing situation, minimizing disruption. Although there are over 800 border crossings with Belgium and Germany, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee will not oversee all crossings due to limited resources. The government plans to enhance capacity, but immediate results are expected to be modest.
