Dutch Minister Faber Allows More Time for Asylum Seeker Housing Compliance

Minister for Asylum and Migration, Faber, will not compel municipalities to meet asylum seeker housing requirements under the new distribution law, allowing an additional six months to secure remaining placements. Nearly 90,000 spots are close to being confirmed, with an overall goal of 96,000. Faber, a critic of the law, believes that the need for such legislation may decrease as asylum seeker inflows are curtailed. The COA now expects at least 115,000 housing spots will be necessary by January 2026 due to slow housing transition for those with status.
