Edinburgh’s Tour Guides: Empowering the Homeless and Marginalized through City Tours
In Edinburgh, a unique initiative called ‘Invisible Cities’ employs former homeless individuals as tour guides, helping them to reintegrate into society while providing visitors with insightful perspectives on the city’s history and social issues. Jason Cunningham, one such guide, shares his journey from addiction and homelessness to a stable job, earning a modest income. Founded by Zakia Moulaoui, this program has trained 150 guides since 2016 and operates in multiple cities, aiming to foster understanding of marginalized communities.
