eir Invests €500 Million to Enhance Ireland’s Fibre Broadband Network
Telecom provider eir has announced a €500 million investment to expand its fibre network across Ireland. The initiative aligns with the Government’s National Broadband Plan, aiming to provide gigabit broadband access to 2.4 million premises by 2028. An Economic and Social Impact Report reveals eir’s previous investments of €1.7 billion in telecommunications, supporting 3,170 direct jobs and generating nearly 4,755 indirect jobs. CEO Oliver Loomes emphasized the importance of digital inclusivity for Ireland’s future, while economist Anthony Foley highlighted the critical role of advanced broadband infrastructure in fostering economic growth.
