Electric Vehicle Sales in Germany Decline by More Than a Quarter

In 2024, Germany experienced a significant drop in electric vehicle (EV) sales, with only about 380,600 new registrations, a decrease of nearly 27.5% compared to the previous year. This decline is attributed to the end of government incentives, resulting in buyer uncertainty. While total new car registrations fell to approximately 2.8 million, hybrid models gained popularity, now accounting for one-third of all vehicles. The high CO2 emissions from increased combustion engine sales could lead to severe penalties for automakers in 2025 unless EV sales improve.
