Emergency National Plan Urged Amidst Hospital Overcrowding in Ireland

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) is calling for an emergency national plan to address hospital overcrowding as 761 patients await beds. University Hospital Limerick is the most affected with 122 patients waiting. INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha highlighted the dire conditions for healthcare professionals and criticized the lack of proactive measures by the HSE. She emphasized that current trolley numbers exceed inpatient capacity across multiple hospitals, stressing the urgent need for a coordinated response and the prompt development of elective-only hospitals as outlined in the Sláintecare plan.
