A British-flagged sailing vessel with three local occupants suffered a rudder failure two nautical miles from the port of Kefalos in Kos. Local emergency plans were activated, leading to the dispatch of a tugboat and a fishing vessel for assistance. The sailing boat eventually made it safely to the port of Kefalos under its own power. The Kos Port Authority has prohibited the vessel’s departure until repairs are made and a seaworthiness certificate is provided. No injuries or marine pollution were reported from the incident.
