Emmanuel Macron Hopes to Avoid Dissolution of French National Assembly
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hopes of not having to dissolve the National Assembly again during the remaining 30 months of his term. In a meeting with political leaders, he indicated plans to appoint a new prime minister within 48 hours while seeking to avoid support from far-right parties. The meeting was perceived as ‘fruitless’ by Socialist leader Olivier Faure, who added that left-wing parties need to be a central part of any new government formation following last week’s political crisis.
