Councils in England are calling on the government to address a £740 million funding shortfall in homelessness services caused by the freezing of reimbursement rates since 2011. The Local Government Association highlights an increasing number of individuals requiring temporary accommodation, with government data revealing 123,100 households in temporary housing as of June, a 16% increase from the previous year. With rising rents and limited affordable housing options, councils are struggling to provide suitable accommodations, often resorting to costly hotels and bed and breakfasts.
