EPA Calls for Improved Environmental Enforcement by Local Authorities

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has mandated local authorities to enhance enforcement of environmental standards, highlighting 20 national enforcement priorities. While a recent assessment showed a 10% increase in compliance scores among local authorities, concerns remain regarding inadequate resource allocation for water quality and pollution inspections. The report emphasizes the need for stronger leadership at the local level to effectively tackle environmental issues and improve public health. Eight local authorities excelled, with Kildare achieving top marks across all categories.
