EPA De Eagle S Suspected of Damaging Cable in the Gulf of Finland

The oil tanker Eagle S, suspected of damaging a power cable in the Gulf of Finland, has been escorted by the Finnish Coast Guard to Porvoo. The ship was allegedly dragging an anchor across the seabed, leading to damage to the Estlink 2 cable. Finland believes the tanker is part of Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ used to bypass sanctions. The vessel has been seized, and its twenty crew members are facing investigation. Repairing the cable could cost millions and take until late July. NATO has decided to increase military presence in the Baltic Sea due to recent incidents.
