ETH Lausanne Researchers Develop Bird-Inspired Robot Capable of Jumping and Flying

A team of researchers from ETH Lausanne has designed a robot that can walk, jump, and fly, drawing inspiration from the mechanics of bird legs. By studying how birds store and release energy, they created a robotic limb that mimics this function. While the initial takeoff has been successful, challenges remain for landing and potential applications are being considered, particularly for rescue missions and deliveries. Despite technical hurdles, the lead researcher, Won Dong Shin, is committed to creating a propeller-less robot that can fly like a real bird.
