EU Allocates Funding for Joint Arms Purchases to Support Ukraine
The European Union has officially utilized its budget for the first time to support joint arms purchases among its 27 member states, primarily aimed at aiding Ukraine. The EU has previously financed weapons acquisitions outside its budget. A total of €200 billion has been invested to assist around 20 countries in acquiring defense equipment, with most resources designated for Ukraine. The initiative is part of the EU’s broader strategy to enhance its defense capabilities and meet its commitment to deliver a million artillery shells to Ukraine by March 2024.
