EU Commission Approves Lufthansa’s Stake in Italian Airline ITA
The European Commission has officially approved Lufthansa’s acquisition of a 41% stake in the Italian state airline ITA. Following initial approval in June, the final agreement comes with conditions, including allowing competitors such as Easyjet and Air France-KLM access to certain flight routes. Lufthansa plans to invest €325 million to start, with the potential for a full takeover for over €800 million in the coming years. ITA, established in 2020 from the former Alitalia, currently employs nearly 4,900 staff.
