EU Countries Urge New Tobacco Tax Law to Address E-Cigarettes
Sixteen EU countries have requested the European Commission to draft a new law on taxing tobacco that includes electronic cigarettes, currently not covered by existing regulations. Led by the Netherlands, these countries believe the outdated EU tobacco taxation law from 2011 fails to consider the evolving tobacco industry, resulting in fragmented national regulations. They highlight the urgent need for harmonization, especially as concerns grow over disposable vapes. The request comes ahead of a new commission set to begin its term on December 1.
