EU Delays Implementation of Deforestation Prevention Rules
The European Union has granted companies an additional year to adapt to new rules aimed at preventing deforestation, postponing the application deadline to December 2025 for large operators and June 2026 for small businesses. The legislation, which seeks to regulate the EU market for products contributing to global deforestation, covers items like beef, cocoa, coffee, and palm oil. The European Commission hopes this extension will facilitate compliance while aiming for zero deforestation supply chains. A political agreement was reached following concerns about readiness among EU member states and producers.
