The European Union has announced its fifteenth sanctions package against Russia in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the measures aim to combat the so-called ‘shadow fleet’ used by Russia to evade existing sanctions. This fleet consists of numerous unregistered ships transporting oil and gas to countries like India and China. The new measures also target companies and individuals supporting Russian military technology, with over 2,300 names added to the sanctions list since the conflict began.
