EU Mandates USB-C Charging Standard for Electronics
As of December 28, 2024, manufacturers in the European Union are required to equip all new mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, and cameras, with a USB-C charging port. This regulation aims to reduce electronic waste and save consumers money by standardizing charging cables. Laptops have a grace period until 2026 to comply. Despite resistance from manufacturers like Apple, the EU has enforced this rule to promote efficiency and sustainability in electronic consumption.
