Beginning January 1, 2025, the European Union will implement a ban on amalgam as a dental filling material due to environmental concerns over mercury. While some studies have disproven health risks associated with amalgam, the focus is on reducing mercury leaks during cremation processes. Although amalgam is valued for its durability and ease of use, its application has been declining in recent years. Exceptions to the ban include cases involving patients with disabilities where alternative materials may not be viable.
