Excavation of 50,000-Year-Old Baby Mammoth Found in Siberia
Researchers in Siberia have discovered the remarkably preserved remains of a 50,000-year-old baby mammoth named ‘Jana.’ Found in permafrost near Yakutsk, the fossil exhibits an intact head and trunk, which is uncommon due to typical decay. Weighing 180 kg and measuring 1.2 meters in height, the young mammoth likely lived only one year. Experts believe this unique find will provide important insights into the evolution and habitat of mammoths. Jana is reported to be the best-preserved mammoth fossil ever discovered.
