Exciting Discoveries in Ancient Samiko Reveal the Sanctuary of Poseidon
Archaeological research in Samiko, Greece, led by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and the Austrian Archaeological Institute, has identified the foundations of the Sanctuary of Poseidon, measuring 28 by 9.5 meters. The head of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Erophili-Iris Kollia, shared that the temple may have also served as a political center for the city-states of Trifylia. Additionally, a bronze plaque with a 6th-century inscription was discovered nearby, which is expected to enhance our understanding of the site’s historical significance.
