Syria’s literature reveals the nation’s complex narrative of struggle against the Assad regime while celebrating the beauty of its culture. This article provides an overview of five significant works by contemporary Syrian authors, including Luna Al-Mousli’s ‘Eine Träne. Ein Lächeln’, Shukri Al Rayyan’s ‘Nacht in Damaskus’, Khaled Khalifa’s ‘Der Tod ist ein mühseliges Geschäft’, Samar Yazbek’s ‘Wo der Wind wohnt’, and Lutz Jäkel’s ‘Syrien. Ein Land ohne Krieg’, highlighting their themes of resilience, loss, and the richness of everyday life.
